Teach ... Never Belittle

Teach … Never Belittle

I didn’t mean to write on this topic tonight.  I thought I was going somewhere else in my mind.  And then this quote crossed my path.

What a great, I mean G R E A T concept.  Leaders need it, managers need it, bosses need it, wives and husbands need it, parents need it.  Heck … everybody in the whole world needs to master this idea.

I’ve been on the receiving end of the ‘belittle’ part and it’s no fun.  I’ve quoted Maya Angelou’s quote numerous times before, and it fits again here.

“People will never forget how you made them feel”, and that applies to this ‘belittle’ thing.

Mankind already suffers with low self-esteem, low validation syndrome, and a lot of other self-image issues.  Why would we belittle someone when they are wrong?

Rather, what a great opportunity for a teaching moment.

So, this is for all of us – every single person reading this post.  The next time you want to correct someone … TEACH.  Don’t belittle.

This is what is
on my mind today.

Listening

Listening

I’m in a restaurant eating breakfast.  There are three conversations happening around me.  From what I hear and observe, in each of these sets of conversations, ‘listening’ is happening.  I hear and sense good and wholesome listening going on.  That’s a good, yea ‘great’ thing.

CB and I have a rule.  When she comes to where I’m writing, or doing anything, and wants to talk, I take my hands off the computer keys, I mute the TV and devote my whole attention to what she has to say.  And she does the same.

We LISTEN!

What an art – to tune in, to pay attention.  I remember a line from a book I read five years ago.

A husband and wife are talking.  The wife says, “I’ve never been so listened to … so heard.”

Wow!  That is a great relationship moment.

This is what is
on my mind today.

Put It Into Words

Put It into Words

When we put our words together in the right way, we could move the world.

We could change a life.
We could make someone’s day.
We could inspire someone to a new level of greatness.
We could take the blinders off someone’s eyes.
We could extend a life.
We could be the catalyst for good in someone or something.

Oh my, another reminder of the power of the right word given at the right time.

This is what is
on my mind today.
