How to Live a Life

-->
How to Live a Life

I read this last night and thought – what a powerful thing.

Here’s the story:

A man attended a retreat for career men.  At the end of the week, the last thing each man was asked to do was to write a newspaper headline that he would most like to see in the paper about himself.

He wrote:

“John Smith Was Elected 'Father of the Year' Today – His Wife and Family Were the Judges.”

That is about all that needs to be said for today.

This is what is on
my mind today.

A Bit of Gratitude

A Bit of Gratitude

I am thankful to be here today.  Five months ago, my cardiologist gave me a 70% chance of surviving surgery – three heart by-passes.  I am thankful to be here today.

I have a comfortable day today.  I’m well-fed, clothed, warm, loved, and liked.

I have friends around the globe.  They each contribute to the fabric of my life in their own unique way.  I remember incidents, words, experiences with them, and I am thankful for their contribution to all that is me.

I have family – siblings, step-kids, grandkids, and they are an important part of my life.  I am thankful.

I have personal freedoms.  I can go anywhere I chose to go today.  No one will stop me at the border between Seattle and Bellevue, or Kirkland and request my license nor my right to be there.

I have breath in my lungs.  I have eyesight, muscles that work, and my mind is functioning.  I am thankful.

I have beauty all around me.  I’m looking out on a grassy knoll, a lovely rhododendron bush, a quiet creek, and a blue sky.

I have books aplenty to read, music to move and sooth my soul, and a calm spirit at this moment.

I am loved by a God who loves me with a furious love.

     I am at peace.
          I am content.
               I am grateful.

This is what is on
my mind today.

What Will You Be?

What Will You Be?

You like my title?  I thought it was a pretty good one … what will you be.

And the answer?

‘What will you be’ depends on what you do right now, today, this week and next week and the week after.  I think of the old adage “Actions speak louder than words” when I consider this topic.  I could recite a litany of goals and dream of what I want to be, but my actions really will tell the tale.

I am whatever my legacy thus far says about me simply because back then, a long time ago, I started making lifestyle choices and adding activities and actions to my daily schedule.

What will you be?

You’ll be whatever you do next, and keep doing, if it is good and wholesome, right and true, and in line with your purposes.

This is what is on
my mind today.
