Dumb Enough to Carry on Anyway

Dumb Enough to Carry on Anyway

Let me be smart enough 

to know how dumb I am 

and give me the courage 

to carry on anyway.

I would never intend to offend you with my writing, but this one was too good to pass up. 

Are you a smart one? Smart enough to know you are dumb? Oh my. I glad you didn’t know me in my forties. I thought I had the world by its tail and was on top of the heap. I look back on that time in my life and shake my head in wonder and awe at my stupidity. I was fairly good at my craft in those days. Fairly. There were others in my circle who were much better. They looked better, sang better. They WERE better.

And now … I shake my head and thank God I made it through that era. Today, I’m less concerned about bettering someone, or looking better, being better, and each morning I find the courage to carry on anyway.

Can you relate to this? Can you see yourself “back then” and thank God you made it this far?

Self-reflection is a wonderful thing. And as we age, perhaps we gain some true insights. And perhaps, best of all, we gain courage to carry on in spite of our inadequacies.

This is, perhaps, the best kind of courage of all.

Savior the Memories

Savor the Memories

I’m sitting enjoying one of the great water-view sights in Seattle at Lowell’s Restaurant in Pike Place Market.  I have my sights on a lovely cruise ship – The Norwegian Bliss. 

Memories of two other cruises flood my mind.  I can see and relive so much of both of those cruises.  I love memories. 

A few years ago, I started a file of my early childhood memories and stories I remembered.  Those become more cherished as the years float by. 

It’s past history.  How important is that?  We are reminded of where we came from, and how we survived.  We relive the good and the bad, and learn from it all. 

If I let them, my memories prompt me and affect my todays.  I’m thankful for what I’ve gone thru, and anticipate making lots more memories.  My cardiologist, before heart surgery, told me he could give me another twenty years.  Oh my.  I think I’ll take those precious gifts. 

Time to make more memories.

Who Is Best on the Beach?

Who Is Best on the Beach

Dr. Seuss is our guest lecturer today.  Please welcome him. 

(Applause, Applause)

Today, in my social media feed, I read five posts that were slamming to people who felt differently from the writer.  They didn’t like their voting, their choice of whom they liked or supported in the political arena.  These five posters proclaimed they were the “best on the beach” simply because they liked one political stance and all others were wrong. 

I might suggest, gently of course, that these ‘friends’ of mine attend a refresher course in Seussism. 

Note the last line.

“And no kind of Sneetch is the best on the beaches.”

It seems to me that this comes down to a matter of choice. 

You are free to choose!  Always and forever.
