Life without Comparision

Life without Comparison

No one can do life exactly as I can do life.  It has taken me a long time to accept this as fact.

In my earlier years, I was consumed with comparing my life with my peers, and I always seemed to come up short.  I never dressed as well, as fashionable as they, I wasn’t as talented as they, I wasn’t as popular as they.

What a conundrum.  And then, at some point, I began to see and accept my own worth and value.  I began to notice I have opinions too.  I have my skill set and it is slightly or largely different from my peers, yet it works too.  People actually would come and listen to my musical productions, hear me sing solos, and now they read my stuff and listen to my podcasts.

Wow!  I am accepted for who I am.

Finding acceptance inside our own skin is a grand day indeed.  What a pursuit.

What a find!

Life Edits Allowed

Life Edits Allowed

I love this quote for two different reasons.

First Thought:
WE write the story of our lives - no one else gets to hold the pen.  Personally, I've allowed other opinions and words to influence my life and my thinking.  No more.  I have developed a strong "decision" muscle and can make pretty darn good decisions for myself.  No one else is allowed to write my life story for me.

Second Thought:
I shall make edits as I go along.  I guarantee one thing - I'll never get it all right the first time around, and I will go back and edit as much of my life as I can and when necessary.

I'll change my mind, I'll change my verbiage, I'll change my company when necessary, I'll change my political leanings if needed, and I'll change in whom I trust.

And don't we all have the privilege to edit our lives on a daily basis?

Do we?

If not, I think they call that "rut living".

You and I get to decide.

my mind today.

What Will We Accomplish Today?

What Will We Accomplish Today?

Poet Mary Oliver wrote this and I’m going to dance with it for a bit.

“I wonder what it is I will accomplish today?”  Mary Oliver

My day is fresh here in Seattle.  I haven’t even left home yet.  I have written a few notes to friends – words of hope and encouragement today.  Did I accomplish anything significant?

I haven’t found a cure for any illnesses.  I haven’t solved the family crisis at our borders.  I haven’t lost ten pounds over night.

I’ve not done much of significance, in my eyes.

Except give one person hope and let him know he’s not alone.  Maybe my thoughts and prayers for what he is facing helps.

Maybe one of the blogs I posted will reach someone somewhere and they will see a word or phrase that will lift their spirits.  That would be a great day for me.

Much of what I’ll do today is mundane, ordinary stuff in life that is required of me.  I have people with whom I’ll interact, a meeting at the end of the day, spend time with CB over breakfast.

Inside of those moments, I hope something I do, a smile, a kind word, a meaningful handshake will do some good.

What will you accomplish today?

This is what is on
my mind today.
